Wardsboro - A  |  123.42 KW

The Wardsboro Newfane Solar project involves the installation of a PV solar system at 87 Wacker Road, Wardsboro, VT 05355. According to the Special Warranty Deed dated November 21, 2016, the property is held by David H. Wacker, Trustee of the David H. Wacker Revocable Trust dated August 30, 2007, and Karen Wacker, Trustee of the Karen Wacker Revocable Trust dated the same day.

The Wardsboro Newfane Solar Project is a strategically positioned 864 kW distributed generation asset selected by Green Mountain Power (GMP) through its 2025 Distributed Renewable RFP. As part of GMP’s commitment to achieving 100% renewable energy by 2030, this project supports Vermont’s clean energy transition through a long-term 25-year power purchase agreement. GMP’s status as a certified B-Corp and its focus on deploying solar in rural communities adds institutional strength and long-term alignment with decarbonization goals.

This project brings direct benefits to the Wardsboro community and the surrounding region. Its construction supports local job creation, regional labor procurement, and increased tax revenues—all while advancing local grid modernization. Once operational, the system offsets 864 kW of fossil-fuel-generated electricity, decreasing reliance on external energy sources and enabling stable, distributed energy access for GMP’s customer base under net-metering policies. The project also supports compliance with Vermont’s Tier II Renewable Energy Standard, reinforcing its environmental impact.

From an investment standpoint, the Wardsboro Newfane project strikes a strong balance between scale and efficiency. Its size allows for cost-effective operations and maintenance, while remaining manageable under Vermont’s well-established interconnection framework. The state’s structured approach to permitting and grid access helps minimize development uncertainty, further enhancing the project’s bankability.

With a reliable utility offtaker, strong policy alignment, and a clear role in Vermont’s renewable strategy, this project offers long-term revenue stability and supports both local and statewide sustainability goals.
